When the dog knows how to make contact and is willing to do it, you can start teaching him tricks or special behaviors you want him to learn. It is very enlightening and amusing to try out your own dog's inventiveness. Show the dog a treat but do not use any verbal commands. He will probably sit down. Whatever behavior he first offers, click and treat for it. Repeat this for a few times (clicking and treating for this same behavior). Then change the plan, do not click & treat for sitting anymore. For a moment the dog seems puzzled but will soon offer some other behavior in trying to get the treat. Whatever it is, click & treat, repeat for few times, and then change again to something else. The dog gets the idea that he is controlling you by offering you different kinds of behaviors which make it possible for him to get treats from you.
