Health

Bloodhound is a rare breed, even globally, which means that the gene pool is very limited. This often brings up the genetic problems, although the number of problems is considerably smaller than in many other breeds. Like in many other giant breeds, joint problems in hips and elbows are quite common. Dangerous and often fatal problem is bloat. Bloodhounds also have eye problems: entropium (eyelids turn inwards) and ectropium (eye lids turn outwards). Also epilepsy can be found in this breed as well as allergies, skin problems and infections of the eye and ears. Unfortunately Bloodhounds is not famous for longevity - the average lifespan is 7-8 years.
