Bloodhound is heavily built, massive dog with a noble and dignified expression. He has a too big coat which hangs in folds especially on the head and neck. Skin hangs also around the eyes and pulls down the lower eye lids to show the red inner part of the eye. This gives the Bloodhound the special look which makes some people think he looks scary, others that the dog looks funny as if he had hangover. Also lips are big and hanging. Skull is long and narrow, with a prominent occipital peak. Ears are long and low-set and when pulled straight they should reach at least the nose, preferably further.

The body is strong and balanced, well angulated back and front. Feet are well-knuckled cat feet, stern carried high on a beautiful arc, but not too much curved over back. Hair on the body is short, especially on the ears it is silky and short, on the back more coarse and longer.

Height at withers, dogs: approximately 67 cm, bitches: 60 cm. Weight varies approximately between 40-60 kilos.
